Mechanical Knee Pain

Knee pain can often be mechanical. This is to say that actions at the foot and hips cause excess stress at the knee. Think of your body as a chain, a “mechanical chain.” What happens at one end of the chain, affects the other end of the chain. The knee the middle-link between foot and the hip.  The knee can commonly go into a valgus position, i.e. knock-kneed position, due to foot overpronation and/or hip weakness. This places abnormal stress on the knee. Physical therapy, orthotics, and bracing are good front-line treatments to address mechanical deficits. Injection therapy is helpful in moderate to severe cases for ongoing pain. Regenerative therapy can improve ligament laxity.
